How Long Does Window Tint Last in Arizona?
How long tint lasts in Arizona depends on one thing more than any other: what kind of film it is. Two cars tinted the same week can look completely different a few summers later. Here is why, and how to tell where yours stands.
The film type decides most of it
Dyed film gets its color from dye, and UV breaks dye down. In a state with this much sun, that is the film you see turning purple and bubbling on older cars. It is also the film we strip off most often.
Carbon and ceramic film get their color and their heat rejection from particles in the film, not dye. There is nothing in them to fade purple, so the shade you pick is the shade the glass keeps. Those are the only films we install. The carbon vs ceramic guide covers the difference between the two.
What Arizona does to tint
- UV: breaks down dye. Prescott sits about a mile up, where UV runs stronger than it does at sea level.
- Heat: a closed car in summer sun bakes the adhesive under cheap film until it lets go. That is where bubbles come from.
- Grit: dust in the window seals drags across the film every time the glass goes up and down.
Signs your film is done
- The color has shifted toward purple or brown.
- Bubbles or blisters that do not go away.
- Edges lifting or peeling at the top of the glass.
- A hazy look at night, with halos around headlights.
None of those can be patched. The film and its adhesive have to come off, which is what tint removal is. On a rear window that means working around the defroster lines without damaging them.
How to make good film last
- Leave the windows up for the first few days so the film can cure to the glass.
- Clean with an ammonia-free glass cleaner and a soft microfiber.
- Do not scrape stickers or ice off the film side of the glass.
- Park in shade when you have the choice. It helps the whole interior.
A little haze or a few small water pockets right after install are normal while the film dries, and they clear without help.
About warranties
Film warranties vary by manufacturer and by film line, so ask for the terms in writing with your quote. We install Union Window Films in carbon, ceramic, and nano-ceramic, and we will go over what covers the film you choose before you book.
If yours has already gone
Send the quote form with a photo of the glass. On most vehicles the strip and the re-tint happen in the same visit, and the price sheet covers the new film.
